The Tinajo City Council has taken custody of about twenty dogs that were found in the back of the house where four members of a family have been arrested for the disappearance of a young woman. As the case is under investigation, the animals must be guarded and cared for by the City Council until further order from the judge.
The City Council will prepare a technical sheet for each animal for cleaning and deworming, thanks to the help of volunteer veterinarians. The City Council has assured that "at this time" the dogs "have their primary needs covered".
The mayor, Jesús Machín, and the councilor for the Animal Protection area of Tinajo had to wait several hours this Wednesday, until 2:00 p.m. when they were authorized to enter this house, which is sealed. And it was already known that inside, in a backyard, there were "an incalculable number of animals."
The technical staff of the City Council removed one by one the dogs that were "crammed" and that had to be treated "urgently due to the poor conditions of unsanitary conditions and malnutrition". "The animals were left unprotected when all the members of the family with whom they lived were arrested. That is why the Animal Protection Area of Tinajo has provisionally located the rescued animals in the municipal kennel," the City Council has reported.
Thus, they have been provided with "primary care and their basic needs for food and shelter have been met." The problem is that the Tinajo municipal kennel is now suffering from an "unprecedented overcrowding." Despite having made improvements in recent months, "they are insufficient for this volume of dogs."
Therefore, the City Council of Teguise was going to pick up several of them this Thursday at its municipal kennel. In addition, volunteers from the Sara protectora went to Tinajo on Wednesday afternoon to offer their collaboration and carry out an initial assessment of the "deplorable state in which the dogs were found." In addition, they assumed custody of five dogs that were in the municipal facilities before the event.
"Malnourished and with aggressive behaviors"
The City Council has reported that most of the dogs found in this house in Tinajo "are malnourished and some show aggressive behaviors." "Others are quite old and have mobility problems," they have indicated.
The Tinajo City Council has thanked the municipal workers for their collaboration, who "have not hesitated to help in everything possible in the face of this extraordinary situation that the City Council is facing." It has also extended this gratitude to the Teguise City Council and the Sara animal protectora.
The City Council has also pointed out that "any professional help from veterinarians will be well received and necessary in terms of care, medicines and products for deworming."
