With the beginning of the new 2019/2020 school year and after receiving various demands from the educational community of Teguise and observing the needs of the municipality in terms of education, the mayor of Teguise has requested "as a matter of urgency" a monographic meeting with the Island Directorate of Education of Lanzarote.
"During the weeks prior to the start of the course, from the Teguise City Council we have attended to those demands for maintenance of school infrastructures that the community has demanded of us, but the extensive network of Teguise centers requires special attention and care from the Ministry of Education, so we have requested a monographic meeting to transfer those pressing issues so that the new course begins and progresses in Teguise with the maximum guarantees of educational quality," said Oswaldo Betancort.
A "very important" issue for Teguise is to solve the "problem with the five mixed groups that the CEIP Doctor Alfonso Spínola de la Villa Teguise has", as reflected in the report issued by the City Council, along with a list of demands including the need to incorporate an auxiliary and support teacher in the same center, as well as the search for alternatives to the union of the Infant and Primary groups that is proposed for this course in the CEO Ignacio Aldecoa de La Graciosa, understanding the characteristic of the island's population.
On the other hand, "Teguise will continue to demand the subsidy for the transport of the Baccalaureate students of our municipality to the IES Tinajo and IES Costa Teguise," says Betancort.
"Finally, and no less important, we would love to know the status of the project and tender for the new CEIP Costa Teguise, as well as the situation of the works committed by the Ministry of Education to the current Costa Teguise school; and the forecast for the expansion of the IES Costa Teguise; among other issues that concern the unitary schools and their survival," concludes Oswaldo Betancort in his request.
