The plenary session of the Arrecife City Council, with the votes of the Government team, approved this Wednesday the initial phase of the municipal accounts for this year. For her part, the mayoress Olivia Duque has assured that they are "the budgets for economic recovery."
During her speech in the Plenary session, Duque detailed that this document, which aims to respond to the needs of the residents, amounts to a total of 39,035,000 euros, 6.5% more than the budget of the previous year. "They are realistic, objective and balanced, because the expenses are adjusted to the income without the need to carry out any debt operation with the banking entities until it is necessary," she said.
"After the drop in income during the pandemic, these expansive accounts will help us consolidate the priority policies to turn Teguise into a prosperous municipality," she confirmed. "They are designed to make the most of resources, always thinking about the greatest benefit for citizens," she said after saying that "the priority is to improve and expand the provision of essential public services."
She also cited some strategic lines of the budgets, such as the investment in drafting projects to improve educational, cultural, sports, social infrastructures and outdoor areas. Duque added that "all this will generate economy in the municipality through minor works that boost the local business fabric."
Olivia Duque (CC), together with the spokespersons of the Government team, Rita Hernández (PP) and Ginés González (VOX), made it clear that they have "the focus on promoting the cultural values of the municipality, sports, education and social services." Proof of this is that there is a significant increase in transport aid for students, maintaining aid to sports clubs and associations, focusing above all on support for schools.
The mayoress also insisted that this document only includes municipal funds, which will be increased with transfers from the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands, which will allow strategic projects to be carried out such as the rehabilitation and improvement of playgrounds, asphalt plans and revitalization of socio-cultural centers.
The accounts also reflect support for the primary sector, maintaining aid to agriculture, livestock and fishing in Teguise. The execution of environmental and archaeological projects and animal welfare through collaboration with different associations are also a priority in the budgets approved this Wednesday.
The first mayor also highlighted that a new tender will be carried out for the contracting of the waste collection service, as well as the maintenance of parks and gardens in the municipality, the improvement of the municipal animal shelter, as well as sports and educational facilities and playgrounds.
The budgets also respond to the commitment to strengthen the associative fabric of Teguise, both with financial aid and with the transfer of premises so that they can carry out their activity. "All this without forgetting that one of the main economic engines is the tourism sector. That is why we have decided to increase the items for the promotion and revitalization of the tourist areas of the municipality," said Olivia Duque.
After the plenary procedure this Wednesday, a period of 15 days is opened for the presentation of allegations and claims. After being attended to, the final approval will proceed.
Olivia Duque wanted to emphasize the effort made by the technical and political teams of the City Council to approve the budgets. "After the renewal of the plenary as a result of the electoral process, they have worked against the clock to design a document that reflects the capacity for dialogue and negotiation of the three political formations of the government team," she thanked.
In addition, she valued that a high degree of participation has been achieved in the elaboration, after listening to the residents, entities, associations and groups from all the towns in the municipality.
