A day after the Cabildo building disconnected from the power grid for five minutes to symbolically join the blackout called by more than 50 environmental, trade union and citizen organizations, against climate change, the Hotel San Antonio in Puerto del Carmen has announced that it will finalize the installation of new equipment that will contribute to energy savings in the coming weeks. This hotel will install solar panels to allocate the energy from these to the air conditioning system in its facilities.
The main innovation of the project is the use of absorption chillers for the production of air conditioning in the hotel, thus contributing the solar panels to efficiency and energy saving. The mechanism system is based on the absorption plant being activated through thermal energy (hot water at 80ºC-90ºC), producing cold water (7ºC) for use in the air conditioning system of the hotel accommodation.
The Institute for Energy Diversification of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce and the Government of the Canary Islands have participated in the financing of the ecological facilities of this hotel, which will prevent the emission of 525 T/CO2 per year and save it 80 percent of the current expense it makes annually in fuel.
