The San Bartolomé City Council continues with the ethical control of the feline colonies in the municipality. Since the arrival of Gesplan, a total of 131 cats have been sterilized in just six months, a figure that consolidates the progress of the CER method (capture, sterilization, and return) in the municipality.

The monthly breakdown reflects a constant intervention: 28 sterilizations in September, 32 in October, 15 in November, 11 in December, 30 in January and 15 in February. If this pace is maintained, the municipality could be at an annual average of between 260 and 280 sterilized cats.

The mayor, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that “these data show that we are working in a planned and responsible way in the control of feline colonies, opting for an ethical and effective model. Animal welfare is a priority for this City Council, and we address it with rigor, coordination, and citizen collaboration”.

For his part, the Councillor for Animal Welfare, Fernando Vadillo, explained that “our objective is to continue closing colonies using the CER method. A colony is considered closed when it exceeds 80 or 85% of its sterilized cats, which allows stabilizing its population and improving coexistence.”

Vadillo added that, with the commissioning of the new operating room, it is expected to increase the number of interventions and accelerate the control process. “In addition to sterilizing, we are microchipping all intervened cats, which will allow us to have a detailed and updated map of the municipality's colonies. Until now, the data has been provided to us by volunteers, whose work is fundamental and to whom we want to thank for their involvement,” he pointed out.

San Bartolomé thus reaffirms "its commitment to responsible public policies in animal welfare matters, based on planning, collaboration and respect towards animals and the community".
