The spokesperson for the Nationalist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Samuel Martín, took advantage of the first session of the 2025 State of the Island Debate to draw a clear line between the past and the present: "Lanzarote has gone from paralysis to action, from empty promises to real commitment." He also warned of the "dangerous drift" that the PSOE is undertaking in its "campaign of verbal aggression" directed at Coalición Canaria (CC).

Martín reproached the previous socialist government for leaving an Institution "aimless," trapped in "headline politics" and unable to execute key projects: now they have chosen the politics of insult... For years, much was said and little was done," the spokesperson recalled, emphasizing that, in just over a year and a half, the current island government group has managed to reverse that inertia.

A Poisoned Inheritance

The nationalist spokesperson painted a stark diagnosis of what they received: strained social policies, stalled infrastructure, and strategic projects left unaddressed. Martín recalled that the previous Governing group left dependency positions frozen, social agreements signed late, and unused centers, generating "conflict and uncertainty" among families, professionals, and third-sector entities.

Regarding territorial matters, he described the socialist management of the Insular Planning Plan as "obvious abandonment," a document costing 700,000 euros that ended up "at the bottom of a drawer," with no settlement or use, forcing municipalities to "improvise their development without a common roadmap."Water, one of the most sensitive issues on the Island, was - according to Martín - "the most serious example of mismanagement": 61% losses, frames broken for two years without replacement, 14 million euros lost in irrigation, and tariff payments without the mandatory legal opinion. "They turned water into a political weapon while the infrastructure deteriorated uncontrollably," he lamented.

A Turn in Management: Real Solutions

Faced with this scenario and having passed the halfway point of the term, Martín defended that the current government has returned to the island "the seriousness and direction that the citizens demanded." In social policies, Lanzarote "is today the Island of Care," with the largest social agreement in its history, more than 35 million and 220 guaranteed public places, and projects such as the new residence in Tahíche or the Cáritas Integral Center already underway.Regarding housing, thanks to the decisive action of Coalición Canaria, the Cabildo has begun to invest its own resources for the first time: 42 homes acquired in Playa Blanca, three plots for more than 180 protected homes, and a boost to the Youth Rental Bonus. All of this in a context where the state Housing Law, criticized Martín, "has reduced supply and driven up prices," instead of solving them.In terms of territory, the island finally has a new PIOL in an advanced phase, which protects 60% of the land and eliminates more than 100,000 square meters of tourist land; furthermore, La Geria has recovered its specific planning after years of blockage. And in terms of water, the Cabildo has launched a comprehensive roadmap: works on the northern and central lines, modernization of treatment plants, improvements in La Graciosa, and recovery of the 24 million lost for the agricultural network. "Today we can talk about water management, not chaos," the spokesperson insisted in his speechMartín closed his speech with a direct message: "Lanzarote has grown tired of excuses and empty speeches. Today the island plans, executes, and delivers." The spokesperson for Coalición Canaria argued that the current stage has restored stability, planning, and confidence to the citizens: "The strategic projects that had been waiting for years are no longer promises; they are realities in progress."According to his statement, Coalición Canaria will continue working "without noise, without improvisation, and with a clear objective: that Lanzarote looks to the future with hope and with facts, not with headlines."
