Reyes will govern in minority in Yaiza

After a close vote in the Plenary Session of the Town Hall of the municipality, José Francisco Reyes will be the new mayor of Yaiza during the next Legislature, with only one more representative than his immediate pursuer, the Party of Independents of Lanzarote, led by Gladis Acuña. The next thirty days will be crucial to form the new corporation of the municipality, where The PNL-NC will govern in minority, a circumstance that Reyes hopes to solve and "reach agreements to reach understanding and consensus in the formation of the new government".

The new mayor of Yaiza predicted a legislature "that will not be easy" and pledged to make "all necessary efforts to form a government in this period of time". To this end, the new leader of the municipality, bet on the stability of the politics of the municipality, so that the management "does not become a seesaw", as has happened in other island councils, where according to Reyes, has come to "paralyze the daily work of the councils".

Regarding the accusations about his lawsuits with island institutions in urban matters, Reyes clarified that one cannot confuse "the defense of the interests of citizens", with lawsuits that the town hall, which he directs, has pending with the institutions. In this sense, Reyes defended himself from these accusations, arguing that the courts have proven that the "moratoriums are not valid" and therefore, he trusts that the paralysis of licenses will not affect the "future agreements" with the island institutions.

He also reiterated his effort to reach agreements with the rest of the formations of the new government team "so that the municipality of Yaiza goes forward, is consolidated and has services that correspond to it". In this sense, he alluded to the need to put into operation, the new Health Center, the Municipal Institute, as well as a municipal Nursery.

Gladis Acuña, for her part, who is second in the new Government team during the next legislature, referred to the urban plots that the past consistory has suffered and assured that her formation is committed to "end the policy of "clientelism, paint cans, the bag of cement" and get the municipality out of the "stagnation in which it has been for 14 years.

A constructive opposition

She also agreed with Reyes that it will be a "very difficult" legislature, although she shows her support to the mayor in "everything that benefits the municipality", while offering a constructive opposition to the new municipal government, ". However, Acuña warned that "everything that goes in "the path of deterioration of the quality of life, the decline of social services and the irretrievable destruction of our territory", will have "the heavy hand of her party", she remarked.

Gladis Acuña, demanded from the new government team a "democratic spirit" for the new legislature and access of citizens to all municipal information because according to her, it is a right "that by law corresponds to the citizens of Yaiza".

Finally, Leonardo Rodríguez, head of the list of Coalición Canaria, who abstained from voting in the investiture of the new mayor, as did Olivia Fedrés of the Socialist Party of Lanzarote, announced that his party will carry out a "fiscalizing", "firm" opposition, but will strive to "put all his work and effort to solve the problems of the municipality".

Likewise, Rodríguez advocated leaving aside "urban and judicial problems" and ensuring these "interests of the citizens of the municipality", while betting that the new government team "recover the dialogue with the other island institutions". Since according to Rodríguez, "the path is not confrontation but to seek joint solutions for the benefit not only of Yaiza but of the Canary Islands".

Looking ahead to the new legislature, the leader of CC in Yaiza, highlighted as a challenge "to bring the City Council closer to the people, to tell citizens "what is happening in the city council" and remind them that they are "the ones in charge in the municipality".
