The former mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, accused of the alleged granting of illegal licenses for the construction of hotels in Lanzarote, told the judge of Court number 2 of Arrecife in his first statement on October 3 that the company Montelanza gave some subsidies to the PNL although he stressed that it was done "within the law", as stated in the summary.
Montelanza managed a hotel complex in Playa Blanca, the Sun Beach, which from 2004 was transferred to 'Cayest turísticas', owned by the Calixto Estupiñán brothers. The company maintained a small stake in Montelanza. 'Cayest Turísticas' also operates the Cay Beach Sun in the town of Playa Blanca, whose license was granted to Calixto and Estupiñán and JSP in August 1999.
'Cayest turísticas' also manages another complex, the Cay Beach Papagayo, this one with a license annulled by the courts, in the Las Coloradas partial plan. That license was granted to the company Calixto y Estupiñán and was transferred to Alcadesa, which maintained the same administrators. Calixto y Estupiñán was absorbed by Pío Coronado, both subsidiaries of Superdiplo.
The company Montelanza is chaired by José Manuel Romero Domínguez, also president of the Community of owners of the Las Arenas shopping center and former attorney of Yudaya, the company of the Domínguez brothers, also with interests in Playa Blanca.
Among the administrators of Montelanza is also Anastasio Molina López, former director of JSP and former administrator of Parque Eólico Montaña del Canónigo or the municipal parking company of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Also as CEO is Vicente Llinares Dorta, partner of JSP, Vanyera 3 and former president of the company Lloret y Llinares.
Reyes, despite acknowledging that this company had collaborated with his party, said he did not know who the owners of the company were. The PNL was founded in 1996 from a split of the PIL. Later it was integrated into Coalición Canaria and after the elections of 2003 it separated.
