Reyes denies being accused of corruption crimes

José Francisco Reyes flatly denies that he is accused by the Prosecutor's Office of the crime of corruption, as published by the newspaper La Provincia this Thursday. The mayor of Yaiza acknowledges that the Prosecutor's Office is investigating cases against him for alleged crimes of prevarication, for granting an opening authorization for a restaurant in the town of Yaiza and licenses for single-family homes in the town of Las Breñas.

José Francisco Reyes has issued a statement in which he points out that the accusation of prevarication implies that the mayor granted licenses, allegedly knowing that they were not fair or, in this case, knowing that they did not comply with current legislation. Something very different from what a corruption crime would imply, which would mean that the mayor had received economic benefit in exchange for those licenses, something that the Prosecutor's accusation never maintains.

The first mayor of Yaiza believes that "there are parties dusting off complaints" now that the elections are approaching and that the accusation of a crime of corruption in the newspaper has been made "intentionally". In addition, from the Yaiza City Council they specify that the dissemination of these news where alleged crimes are imputed to the mayor is not new, since this summer it was precisely La Voz de Lanzarote who disclosed the facts, "yes, titled correctly", when talking about crimes of prevarication and not corruption. In addition, La Voz had also reported on the accusations against the former mayor of Haría, Juan Ramírez.
