La Graciosa hosted on January 25 the presentation of the European project Renewable Energy for self-sustAinable island CommuniTies (REACT) to all the residents of the island. The meeting, which took place in the Parish Hall of Caleta de Sebo, was presented by the delegate councilor in the eighth island, Alicia Páez, who together with the representatives of the different partners explained to the citizens what this project consists of.
Víctor Sanchez and Kurt Engel, from the Association of Electrical Installers of Las Palmas (AIELPA), Carlos López from Fenie Energía, Pablo Sarrasín and Carimo Osman from Suministros Orduña; and Verónica and Alejandra Zerpa from the company Comet Technology, presented the details of the project, which aims to increase energy security and improve the energy and environmental sustainability of the islands through the strategy designated to maximize the exploitation of renewable energy technologies.
According to the Teguise City Council, during the meeting it was explained that a part of this project, 100% subsidized, will be executed on the island of La Graciosa, and will consist of the installation of 20 self-consumption equipment of 3.02 kWp with storage, which will generate 60 kW of solar energy (5% of the island's demand), which will not cost the user anything in terms of installation or materials.
The Consistory highlights that the project, which will also be developed in parallel in other European islands, such as the island of Aran (Ireland) and the island of San Pietro (Italy), was well received by the attendees, who expressed their support and interest in participating in it and begin to exploit this type of energy for their own use.
