The residents of Argana Alta continue to protest, demanding compensation for the floods they suffered due to the heavy rains that fell last January, and this Tuesday they have taken their complaints to the Arrecife plenary session.
Last week, the residents of this Arrecife neighborhood presented a document with 1,756 signatures both in the Arrecife City Council and in the Cabildo. In it, they stated "the lack of real and effective response from public administrations" and asked to be compensated "for the serious damage caused to homes, belongings and businesses" since, according to the president of the Argana Alta Neighborhood Association, Andres de la Cruz, they had not received "any help".
Likewise, the residents requested "solid projects and rapid investments" to guarantee that this situation does not happen again. And, therefore, they requested a modification of the stormwater evacuation project of Arrecife since, in their opinion, "it is not well done", which causes some streets in this neighborhood to "flood".
The general director of Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mariano de León, assured then that these modifications would be included in a new complementary project that the Government of the Canary Islands is preparing and that he hopes will be finished "before the end of March". However, De León pointed out that "there is no money for its execution" and that, "being a municipal competence, the City Council should face this expense and assume its responsibility".
