This Tuesday morning, the first stone of Marina Lanzarote, the new sports dock to be located in Puerto Naos (Arrecife), has been laid. The presentation ceremony, in the Castillo de San José, was attended by the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, the Director of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, as well as the majority of the island authorities.
The management of the port will be carried out through an administrative concession by the company Puerto Calero Marinas S.L., constituted between Puerto Calero and the company of distribution of oil products Disa. The investment of the works will reach 36 million euros and will be completed at the beginning of 2014. The project is by the architect Carlos Morales and Enac Ingenieros also collaborates.
The company is already born with two marinas in its assets, Puerto Calero in Lanzarote and Marina La Palma, in the capital of La Palma; with the medium-term objective of incorporating three marinas in management, and thereby consolidate a total of five nautical-sports infrastructures in the Canary Islands.
The Arrecife project is divided into three parts. On the one hand, the Marina will have 360 floating moorings and another 72 dry marina places. Service will be given to both small boats and superyachts of 60 meters in length. On the other hand, the leisure and commercial area, with more than 4,000 square meters of terraces and a nautical club with a 25-meter swimming pool, spa, solarium and gym with capacity for 2,000 members, as well as a small commercial area.
Finally, there will be a shipyard for the inshore and offshore fishing fleet of the San Ginés Guild and which in turn incorporates a whole new industry, dedicated to the refit of large-length boats, the so-called superyachts, a new industry in the Canary Islands. The project also incorporates the rehabilitation of the old Naos breakwater, which will remain intact as a cultural and historical value of the city.
