The Lanzarote parliamentarians of the Socialist Group have presented 38 partial amendments to the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2026, which involve redirecting around 30 million euros in investments and spending specifically aimed at the island. The PSOE had already submitted a total amendment, understanding that the budgets of the Canary Islands Coalition and People's Party government do not respond to the real needs of the Archipelago or Lanzarote and constitute an exercise in accounting manipulation that can only be described as deceptive, unfair, and profoundly manipulative budgets.
The socialists denounce that, one more year, investment figures for Lanzarote are artificially inflated by incorporating regional items as if they were specific to the island, with the sole objective of publicly promoting what they have come to define as "the best budget in history" for Lanzarote. In reality, they explain, it is budgetary engineering designed to cheat themselves and, what is worse, to try to confuse citizens, presenting as progress investments that do not correspond to reality. No one who truly wants to defend the interests of this island can boast of budgets built on manipulated data and presented as investments that will never reach the territory
For the PSOE, these **accounts are not up to par with what the Canary Islands need**, neither economically nor socially, and they once again place Lanzarote in a position of clear disadvantage compared to the rest of the Archipelago. "We are facing an absolute debacle that consolidates a new setback for the island," emphasize the socialist parliamentarians, who recall that the Canary Islands Government has been marginalizing Lanzarote throughout the entire legislature. What is presented as a supposed "Canarian way of governing" translates, on this island, into incapacity, neglect, and decisions that systematically turn their backs on the needs of the citizens.
Added to this lack of ambition is a devastating fact: the execution of the regional budget on the island during 2025 will barely reach 5%, which clearly demonstrates the falsification of the accounts. "Not only are the figures inflated on paper, but also what little is allocated ends up unspent," they point out. For the PSOE, this contrast between what is announced and what is actually done confirms that the population is being deceived with numbers that do not translate into health centers, housing, educational infrastructure, or improvements in water supply
38 million partial for Lanzarote
Faced with this scenario, the socialist parliamentarians of Lanzarote have presented 38 partial amendments, worth approximately 30 million euros, aimed at correcting this course and responding to the island's main social and economic priorities, especially in housing, health, education, water, social services, infrastructure, and land conservation. These are realistic, executable amendments aligned with the demands put forward by the town councils, social groups, and citizens themselves, provided there is political will from the Government of the Canary Islands to incorporate them.
One of the PSOE's main commitments focuses on the promotion of public housing, with amendments reaching 6.5 million euros. This proposal aims to compensate for the drastic reduction in the regional budget for this matter, which has gone from 18 to 5 million euros in the current fiscal year, an incomprehensible cut in the context of a housing emergency like the one Lanzarote is experiencing. "We cannot speak of commitment to housing while resources are cut and we continue to look the other way regarding rising rents and the difficulty families face in accessing a decent home," they warnIn the healthcare sector, the socialist amendments include a budget of 3 million euros for the Playa Honda Health Center, a key infrastructure to alleviate the care burden and improve services for the population in that area, as well as 200,000 euros for the renovation of the Insular Hospital, with the aim of modernizing its facilities and ensuring a dignified service that meets the island's current needsIn educational matters, the PSOE proposes various improvements to existing infrastructure and the creation of new spaces, with special attention to shaded areas and basic equipment in schools. Notable are the €1,100,000 proposed for the CEO of Costa Teguise and €555,000 for the "Los Chinijos" Nursery School, along with other actions aimed at adapting schools to the conditions that students and families have been demanding for years.
The water crisis and sanitation deficiencies also occupy a central place in these amendments. In total, the execution of works worth 10,194,000 euros is contemplated in several municipalities, mainly aimed at improving networks, sanitation infrastructure, and actions linked to the integral water cycle. Socialist parliamentarians recall that it is not serious to declare water emergencies for show and, at the same time, approve budgets without real investment that allows for the resolution of breakdowns, losses, and deficiencies that residents and businesses suffer daily
In relation to the conservation and maintenance of the territory, the amendments exceed one million euros, with special mention of the **350,000 euros allocated to La Geria**, whose objective is to advance its recovery and protection as a unique and strategic landscape for the island, both from an environmental, economic, and cultural point of view.
In the social sphere, the PSOE proposes to reinforce the Plan against poverty in Lanzarote with an amendment of 1,000,000 euros, aware of the economic pressure many families are under and the need to implement policies that go beyond one-off announcements. Furthermore, in terms of infrastructure, the amendments add up to around 10 million euros for actions such as the Day Center in Playa Blanca, the conditioning of the Los Hervideros–El Golfo road, or the reform project for Playa Blanca Avenue, to which 5 million euros are intended to be allocated. Other amendments are aimed at promoting energy efficiency in public spaces, supporting cultural projects, and launching initiatives to combat unwanted loneliness.
Ultimately, this is a block of amendments that, in practice, forms an alternative budget for Lanzarote, built from the real needs gathered from municipal governments, social groups, associations, and citizens in general. This social and economic X-ray contrasts with falsified regional accounts that, as happened with the previous budget, once again relegate Lanzarote to the back of the investment rankings among all the islands. The Socialist Group will defend these amendments one by one during the parliamentary processing of the 2026 Budget, convinced that they are the ones that respond to the real demands of Lanzarote's population and that they will allow us to see who is truly on the side of defending the island and who prefers to continue supporting deceptive budgets that only exist on paper.
