The Secretary of Organization of Podemos in the Canary Islands, Pino Sánchez, has stated that she sees no reason to open a file on the party's leadership in Lanzarote, whose members announced this Monday that they will leave the formation when this term ends. In addition, although she has insisted that she considers it "incoherent" that Carlos Meca and the rest of the councilors in the Cabildo continue in office until the elections and do not hand over their act beforehand, she has now pointed out that it is a "personal" decision.
"It is a personal matter that each one has to make, but, well, as an organization, I think the right thing to do was to indicate where the incoherence was and we believe that, perhaps, if they have made the decision to resign or to state that they will not continue, the right thing to do would be to return the act," said the Secretary of Organization of Podemos in the Canary Islands in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, after the regional leadership of the party sent a letter this Monday to its members in which it criticized the "deferred" resignations, pointing out that "the logical thing" would be for the three councilors of Podemos in the Cabildo to resign "as soon as possible".
"We said it in the context of being consistent, that is, I disassociate myself from the organization, so be consistent. It is a decision of responsibility with your decision," responded Pino Sánchez, when questioned about the fact that this would mean leaving Podemos without representation in the Cabildo, since the next ones on the list to Carlos Meca, Griselda Martínez and Pablo Ramírez are also going to leave the formation.
"I don't think we will make a drastic decision"
Regarding the possibility that the party will act, after the statement in which Carlos Meca's team spoke of "betrayals and disloyalties" that have led them to make the decision to leave Podemos, the regional Secretary of Organization has stated that she sees no reason to open files. "They have expressed a political disagreement and have made a decision. In Podemos, if a file is opened it is due to a matter of internal democracy, that is, at this moment it is a political disagreement and I don't think we will make a drastic decision," said Sánchez. "They are not making any kind of undemocratic decision. They have taken a political position and we must respect it even if we do not share it," she added.
Even, the Secretary of Organization of Podemos in the Canary Islands believes that it is still possible to "build bridges" with the party's leadership in Lanzarote. "I think I have a certain cordiality with my colleague Carlos Meca and, at some point, I wouldn't mind establishing some kind of dialogue with him and understanding," said Pino Sánchez.
In fact, the Secretary of Organization of Podemos in the Canary Islands has shown her "full support" for the work carried out by Carlos Meca as a councilor of the Cabildo. "At the institutional and political action level there is harmony. How can we be questioning the work of our colleague Carlos Meca as opposition in the Cabildo against CC? For God's sake, he is one of the people who has fought the most in Lanzarote", who has insisted on "maintaining a dialogue if necessary" with him. "I'm not too proud to do it," said Pino Sánchez, who pointed out that the party is not "at this moment to work on hard lines" either.
