The President of the Government, Paulino Rivero, valued "the work, effort and dedication" of Rita Martín at the head of Tourism in the last three years, and despite being one of the most contested and questioned councillors in the cabinet, he assured that "it has been a sector in which consensus has prevailed".
Rivero's praise to who will be the former Minister of Tourism, due to the unilateral breaking of the Pact by the PP, occurred during a response from the president to the socialist Manuel Marcos Pérez, who urged him to "take the helm" in tourism policies taking advantage of the "Government crisis".
"The councillor has shown her ineffectiveness and you have had to take the reins, because until now the confrontation with the sector has prevailed and you have in your hands to take the helm to put tourism on the path of growth," said Pérez.
Rivero, on the contrary, assured that the sector is "one where the references are more positive and encouraging" in the face of immediate growth, since there are slot reservations for the winter season that are 17 percent higher than a year ago.
Rivero insisted that the Government's strategy is to reinforce promotions in traditional markets, promote them in emerging markets, renew and rehabilitate the accommodation plant and bet on the elimination of airport taxes in order to attract more flights to the Archipelago and, therefore, increase the number of tourists.
