Oswaldo Betancort, who will be the new president of the Cabildo after the municipal and regional elections on May 28, has explained on Radio Lanzarote some of the lines of what his management will be like and how he is after the electoral hangover. "I am rested and trying to leave Teguise organized", recognizes the candidate of Coalición Canaria.
"I am waiting for the date of the plenary session of the Cabildo's constitution, which I have been told will be between June 7 and 27", he confirms.
He also wanted to remember the victory of the Socialist Party in these elections. "I will not fail to congratulate the PSOE for becoming the first force in many municipalities of Lanzarote, where they were not governing." In addition to "Dolores Corujo for her role at the island level."
He has shown "his surprise with the data obtained in Teguise" in which "we have lost four councilors." "We have seen that the PSOE comes out with 28% of the votes and CC with 24% in the municipality and in the Cabildo, we obtained 34% of the votes." That is, "something surprising" since "whoever voted for the Cabildo, did not vote for the municipality", he makes clear.
"It has hurt me since it is my own family and my house", Betancort acknowledges, while emphasizing that it was "my municipality that prompted me to run for the Cabildo and supported me much more than in the previous elections", he says.
Due to the results, he confirms that at the party level "we need to make a quick reflection and I am confident that we are going to restructure many things at the municipal level", he adds. "Starting to influence where we have not realized that we have failed", he says.
In relation to his position as the next president of the Cabildo, "I would like it to be calm" and for this, "I am going to appoint institutional coordinators, who will be advisors." "With total humility, I am not thinking about who can enter, I am thinking about closing agreements", he clarifies.
"I have not thought about the profiles, but I am clear that I am going to surround myself with professionals and try to make my team with people from here." Regarding whether he will include Gladys Acuña in the Cabildo, he reveals that "she will always have a place in the field of work in Lanzarote, if she wants to."
"Enter with tranquility and empathy, and treat everyone the same, regardless of the political party"
Among his thoughts is "entering with tranquility and empathy, and treating everyone the same, regardless of the political party", he anticipates. Since "division brings absolutely nothing, and unity makes strength", he comments.
"We must pursue a common goal, talk more about the island, the structure of the institution and what interests Lanzarote", he confirms.
Regarding the political management plans, "I committed to the primary sector that the councilorship of the sector was not going to be a bargaining chip", he recalls. And also, "I am going to give the answer to that support in the Cabildo to La Graciosa", he emphasizes.
Finally, when asked if he is going to continue the work done with the houses of Valterra, he states that "everything good will be enhanced and everything bad will be corrected."
