The opening of the section of the LZ-408 road, between Nazaret and the agro-industrial complex Vuelta Ajai, was inaugurated this Wednesday. The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has celebrated this fact that fulfills "the demand of the Teguise City Council and the residents of the municipality", especially from the areas of the town of Nazaret and Caleta de Famara.
Betancort has congratulated the Cabildo of Lanzarote and its technical team of Roads and Works for completing this "so important" project, which began in the previous legislature.
He also expressed his satisfaction that the final action has improved the initial proposal, including the roundabout and the expansion of sidewalks, in addition to improving mobility and access to the town of Nazaret.
This work has had an amount of 3.5 million euros, co-financed by the island corporation and the Canary Islands Development Fund.
The senior citizens' residence, another pending issue
After this opening, Betancort pointed out that the Cabildo should begin to respond to "new projects", such as the "long-awaited" Lanzarote Senior Citizens' Residence, "which they have not yet been able to contract.”
"Lanzarote would also like to see if work has been done to respond to our dependent seniors and their families during this government that in 2019 said it was going to focus on people," said the mayor.
In this line, the president recalled that in 2018 the Government of the Canary Islands (then led by Fernando Clavijo) and the Cabildo (with Pedro San Ginés at the head) "promised" to build a socio-health center that "as of today, is neither here nor expected.”
"We are precisely in the most critical moment, with a deficit of 8,075 places in senior citizens' residences throughout the Canary Islands, so it is necessary to resume this action", concluded the politician.
