The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, "demanded" before the president of Red Eléctrica de España, Beatriz Corredor, "the burying of the power lines that especially affect the southern towns of Las Casitas and Femés and the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches", due to the strong visual impact of the towers that support it. "If we advocate for sustainability lines and the defense of the landscape as an essential value of Lanzarote, we must make a great effort to bury the wiring and remove the towers, and Yaiza is here to dialogue and collaborate,” says the mayor of Yaiza.
At the Playa Blanca substation, during the inaugural act of the new interconnection between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura at 132 kV through a 14.5-kilometer-long submarine cable, "Óscar Noda strongly defended the landscape and environmental interests of his municipality, receiving a nod from the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, and the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres", who in subsequent interventions "considered Yaiza's claim legitimate." The president of Red Eléctrica de España, who had explained the characteristics of the project before the mayor, then "transmitted to Noda her understanding and absolute respect for the municipal demand."
“The dialogue between the administrations is open not only to seek financing, but also to find the technical and administrative formula that allows the action,” said the mayor after the act.
The mayor "congratulated in his speech" the investment of 36 million euros and the execution of the cable project that “connects Lanzarote and Fuerteventura under the sea to decisively improve the safety and quality of supply in the two Islands, also significantly reducing CO2 emissions and thus our dependence on fossil fuels.”
