Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista presented this Thursday afternoon the new local structure of Arrecife, which was attended by the national president, Román Rodríguez, the members of the island executive headed by its president and deputy Yoné Caraballo, and other public officials, affiliates and supporters.

During the event, those who will be in charge of directing, coordinating and projecting the Local Committee of the capital of Lanzarote were announced, where the presidency will fall to Servando Pérez Dorta. Pérez Dorta himself stated that he "feels enormous pride for the human group that has been achieved, and hopes that the work from here to 2027 will bear fruit to transform the reality of the capital, which is very much in need of commitment and political renewal."

For his part, the island president and regional deputy Yoné Caraballo highlighted the "tireless and unhurried" work that has been carried out for some months to achieve a "team of women and men from Arrecife who will be the future of Lanzarote's politics, as Marcos Lemes in Haría, Daisy Villalba in the Cabildo or Fernando Jiménez in Teguise are already doing."

"We are a modest, small organization, but we are clear about the objective to be achieved, an island-home that improves the quality of life of our people with greater and better social justice," said Caraballo, who sees in the new Local Committee of Arrecife "the future of the organization." "They will give us good times, knowing that politics in general, but municipal politics in particular, is sacrificial and hard," said the island president.

The brand new spokesperson for the Canaristas in Arrecife, Sheila Guillén, explained in first person her experience as "a daughter of Arrecife, born and raised in the neighborhood of Maneje and with a deep conviction that Arrecife is worthwhile."

Guillén, who has a degree in Labor Relations and a master's degree in mediation and conflict management, maintained that "the capital needs optimism and a new vision that is more modern and committed to the challenges facing today's society." In her presentation, she highlighted "the problem that residents suffer in finding a home for both sale and rent, which hinders labor, family and emotional stability." That is why, continued the spokesperson, one of the first proposals of NC-BC will be to "demand that the local government group declare Arrecife as a stressed area with the aim of curbing the high speculation in the housing market."

In the same vein, the Canarian emphasized the need to "overcome obsolete and last century urban planning models that perpetuate the problems of Arrecife, and to bet on more flexible and adaptable models to a reality that is constantly changing."

"We must go to planning models such as Strategic Plans or Urban Agendas that are already being used in the main European capitals. We need an efficient and fast administration or reality will end up overcoming us," said Sheila Guillén, who highlighted from that reality "climate change, the demographic challenge, mobility and problems in the saturation of essential public services."

Finally, the new spokesperson stopped to explain one of the great "challenges" of NC in Arrecife. This is the improvement in the quality of life of what she calls the "triangle" of the capital, Argana Alta, Maneje and Argana Baja. As a resident of Maneje, she "knows well the problems that these neighborhoods suffer from, which have not been cared for and attended to as they should." "The only way out that Arrecife has to population growth, housing construction and social community are these three neighborhoods. But instead, they are the last on the list in political priorities," she said.

"We will prioritize in our political agenda to build proposals, alternatives and ideas to substantially improve the quality of life of these neighborhoods. Take care of the neighborhoods, their residents, young people and the most vulnerable. Imagine a city-home. Because it's worth trying," Sheila Guillén sentenced.

Inauguration of the island headquarters

Prior to the presentation of the Local Committee, the inauguration of the new island headquarters of NC-BC in Lanzarote and La Graciosa took place. Located on Blasco Ibáñez Street in the capital's Altavista neighborhood, it will be, according to the Canaristas, "a meeting point for the Canaristas of the island, and a space for cultural, educational and activist activities for all those who want to participate in common affairs."

This inauguration was attended by the national president of NC-BC, Román Rodríguez, who wanted to accompany his colleagues in what he called "a giant step for the Canarian and progressive space in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands." Rodríguez highlighted the "exponential increase in affiliates and supporters that the organization is experiencing in Lanzarote, and predicted a promising future for the initiated Local Committee of Arrecife, and encouraged them to do politics with values, principles and focused on improving the lives of our people."

The leader of progressivism highlighted the example of the public officials of NC-BC on the island such as Yoné Caraballo, Daisy Villalba, Fernando Jiménez and Marcos Lemes, who being "newcomers in politics have managed to be where they are, in the institutions generating a new way of doing politics." He encouraged those who could not get representation in May to continue working and take advantage of this period to bring ideas and proposals to all the neighbors.

Finally, Román Rodríguez explained the roadmap that has been approved by the national executive of NC-BC, marking a Work Plan that will improve the image, communication and training of the party.
