A new discharge of sewage has surfaced on the sand of Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen. Since New Year's Day, visitors to the tourist resort have seen the foul-smelling water emerge from the sand, while the corresponding authorities have been unable to locate the fault after nearly two days of work.

The situation was denounced in statements to LA VOZ on Tuesday morning by the councillor of Alternativa Ciudadana 25 de Mayo (AC-25M) in the Tías Town Hall, María Emilia Morales.

The spill was located at the foot of a staircase on the beach in the vicinity of the Fariones hotel on January 1st. Alternativa, upon learning of the existence of the "small spring" notified the Local Police of Tías, who in turn called Aguas Filtradas, which at first refused to act, claiming that the spill came from the hotel's pipes, which would be responsible for locating the fault.

According to the testimony of the Alternativa councillor, fecal water was still coming out in the area on Monday. On this occasion, the progressive formation contacted the Minister of Territorial Policy of the Island Council, Carlos Espino, who in turn contacted the management of the hotel to resolve the problem.

Throughout Tuesday morning, the hotel's maintenance service and Aguas Filtradas worked in a coordinated manner to locate the break in the pipes, which was achieved thanks to a camera from a private company at around four in the morning.

However, first thing on Tuesday morning, sewage reappeared on the beach. At the time of writing this article, nothing had been done by the Town Hall to locate the new fault, with the aggravating factor that the rising tide causes this water to mix with the sea water. In fact, the origin of the spill is still unknown, once the break in the Fariones pipes has been repaired.

Other matters

LA VOZ consulted Morales on the progress of two issues in which Alternativa has taken a great interest from the opposition in the Town Hall. And so, the Consistory remains determined to expropriate the house of a resident of Tías whose property is located on the land of the Campo de Golf Partial Plan. Although the resident in question still lives in his house, the Town Hall is awaiting a court ruling to evict this person.

On the other hand, the municipal government recently met with the owners of the burnt block on Avenida de las Playas to request their approval for the declaration of the building as a ruin. But in any case, sooner or later the building will be demolished, with or without the permission of its inhabitants.
