The Santo Domingo Convent of the Royal Villa of Teguise hosted the institutional act of awarding the Silver Medals to Naviera Armas, Iberia and Aena last Tuesday, March 28. An event that has concluded the series of honorary awards dedicated to institutions and professionals without whom the development of the tourist-residential town of Lanzarote would not be understood. Costa Teguise celebrated its Golden Wedding Anniversary at the end of 2022, an anniversary that will conclude this Friday, March 31, from the Las Cucharas amphitheater with the musical-visual show "Orasa Costa Teguise".
"Thank you for the perseverance, effort, interest and special affection for Lanzarote". Oswaldo Betancort closed the event by dedicating a few words to the honorees of the night and to all those who have been part of the Costa Teguise ephemeris "which, has been and is, a consolidated quality brand, synonymous with the professionalism of a sector in which, initially, there were no great specialists, and that has learned with effort, qualifying itself before the urgency of need, and serving as an example to the new generations. And that is the secret of the success of Costa Teguise, the sum of wills and the dedication of the workers who, like the landscape, remain strong against the winds and the storms of calima".
"Obligation to pursue excellence and this cannot remain in the attempt, it is necessary to carry out new proposals, even if this means making mistakes and starting again", he says. "It is necessary to write guidelines that are not utopias, make decisions according to the new times, excite investors, attract foreign capital, generate decent employment and defend Lanzarote with broad vision, and that is where both politicians and public managers have to work," said Betancort, concluding his speech by wishing a "long life to Costa Teguise".
In an evening with musical intervals by Ayoze Rodríguez (on clarinet), Iya Zhmaeva (on violin) and Javier Díaz (on piano), the honorees received the awards from the mayor, once the councilor Sara Bermúdez made the offer of honors and highlighted "the capacity for adaptation and strength of the three entities".
Mayte Cuenca Luengo, as director of the César Manrique Airport, collected the Silver Medal of Aena and conveyed "on behalf of her colleagues, the professionals who have preceded her in office and all the airport staff, her gratitude in capital letters, and encouraged Teguise to continue being a dynamic population and a leader in the art of taking care of the island's main industry: tourism".
Thanks to the management of the César Manrique airport, the island of Lanzarote has a gateway at national and international level to receive the millions of tourists who move through the international airspace. Airport that brings to Costa Teguise the main customers and consumers of services that maintain the economy of the municipality.
Next, the presenter of the event and writer of the files, María del Pino Fuentes, gave way to the delivery of the Silver Medal to Iberia, a company that landed for the first time in Lanzarote in the summer of 1946, for the opening of the Tenerife-Ifni route with stopovers in Gran Canaria and the Island of the Volcanoes. The insignia was collected by the CEO of Iberia Express, Carlos Gómez Suárez who, on behalf of the entire group, highlighted "his commitment to connectivity, increasing the number of flights and passengers considerably, with sustainability and responsible tourism as premises".
Finally, Paulino Rivero, as head of Institutional Relations of Naviera Armas, received the Silver Medal in recognition of one of the companies that contributes, and has contributed, with its maritime routes to the development of the tourist center of Costa Teguise, a firm originally from Lanzarote that has already completed almost 82 years of professional activity.
