The 25th Lanzarote International Film Festival (FICL) once again filled the Víctor Fernández Gopar Theater “El Salinero” with emotion, reflection and learning with its traditional Children's and Youth Sessions, which this year included the participation of more than 4,200 boys and girls from 25 educational centers from all over the island.
For six days, held at the beginning of this month of April, the students had the opportunity to enjoy a selection of short films specially designed according to their age and educational level, with the aim of bringing them closer to cinematographic narrative from a critical and emotional perspective.
The Culture Councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jesús Machín Tavío, highlighted the importance of this initiative as an educational tool. “Cinema, in addition to entertainment, can be a powerful learning path. We are committed to the FICL as a space where new generations can develop sensitivity, critical thinking and social awareness through audiovisual arts,” said Machín.
The sessions were accompanied by the animation of the actor Luís Garrido, who acted as master of ceremonies guiding the child audience through the different stories, favoring a close, participatory and didactic experience. An activity that reinforces the Festival's commitment to audiovisual education and cultural inclusion from the first formative stages.
Open the School Short Film Contest
In parallel, the FICL has opened the registration period for the School Short Film Contest, aimed at students of Infant, Primary, Secondary, Baccalaureate and Training Cycles. This call seeks to promote creativity and audiovisual work among the youngest, offering them their own space within the Festival.
The deadline to send the works ends on Wednesday, April 30, and the selected shorts will be screened at a special gala on Sunday, May 18 in the Theater Hall of the Multicines Atlántida, where the awards will also be presented. Interested centers can consult the rules and register through the official website of the festival.
The 25th Lanzarote International Film Festival is organized by Fisme Producciones and is sponsored by the Culture Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands, Canary Island Films, the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development, the Society for the External Promotion of Lanzarote through its brand Lanzarote Film Commission, Promotur Turismo de Canarias, the Arrecife City Council and the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote.
