Marcos Hernández highlights the Volcanic Risk Protection plan in the Canary Islands of the new Civil Protection and Emergencies law

In the session of the Internal Affairs Committee of the Senate held this Monday, November 24, the socialist senator, Marcos Hernández, stated that the new Civil Protection law, in addition to improving and coordinating the Emergency Protection Plan for Volcanic Risk in the Canary Islands, "promotes the dissemination of a preventive culture towards citizens with the application of new technologies within the framework of information". The new text includes, according to Hernández, a psychosocial intervention program with those affected, more resources for spaces near nuclear zones, the training of professionals, the National School of Civil Protection and a professionalization process through the homologation of qualifications.

Marcos Hernández, who spoke on behalf of the Socialist Group during the Internal Affairs Committee in the Senate, stressed that "the new reality demands a new legal framework that adapts to the new needs of citizens". This new law will be drafted in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs and, according to Hernández, "from the respect of competences with the Autonomous Communities and local entities, with inter-administrative complementarity".

The aforementioned draft of the Civil Protection Law also contemplates actions within the international framework with the European Union, Ibero-America and Africa and the drafting of various agreements with different actors such as the fire department.

Finally, Marcos Hernández pointed out that "he is convinced that the new law will contemplate some of the deficits that have been detected and that this coordination with the Autonomous Communities and local entities will improve the actions of Civil Protection", he concluded.
