The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the councilors of Education and Youth, Ascensión Toledo and Aroa Revelo, respectively, have received the students Mara Quintana and Pablo
de Eusebio, from CPEIPS Santa María de Los Volcanes, after their outstanding participation in the fifth edition of the regional school contest What is the REF for you?, an educational initiative that seeks to bring the Economic and Fiscal Regime of the Canary Islands to students through creativity and reflection.
Mara Quintana, a 3rd year ESO student, won second prize in the video category, while Pablo de Eusebio also won a second prize in the writing category. Both were accompanied by their teacher, Inmaculada Machado, whose involvement has been key to the success of the center, which is participating for the second consecutive year and already has three awards in this contest.
During the event, the president and the councilors congratulated the young people for "their effort, talent and originality in transmitting what the REF means for the citizens of the Canary Islands" and highlighted the "important work of the teaching staff as the engine of this type of initiatives that strengthen education in values and promote critical thinking".
This year the contest has exceeded 1,200 participating students throughout the Canary Islands, becoming a key tool to bring knowledge of the REF to classrooms in a creative way. The Cabildo of Lanzarote positively values that initiatives like this contribute to future generations understanding and getting involved in the economic and fiscal reality of the Archipelago, highlighting the involvement of the island's educational centers.
