The senator of the Popular Party, Loly Luzardo, has presented a motion in the Upper House urging the Government to create a permanent Civil Guard post on the island of La Graciosa. The aim is for the Executive to include in its forecasts regarding security, the establishment of a small detachment that provides its services on a stable basis.

Luzardo highlights how this demand has been gaining weight among the population "as La Graciosa has been increasing the number of residents and gaining increasing interest from a tourist point of view", to the point of moving about 200,000 travelers annually.

"Greater security service"

Although during summer weekends some security personnel are deployed to La Graciosa, the senator of the Popular Party considers that the island "already requires a greater security service in conjunction with those currently provided by the Local Police officer of the Teguise City Council".

"If we manage to get the motion approved," Luzardo assures, "the demand will be on the table of the Ministry of the Interior and we will have more possibilities that when the deployment of the Civil Guard units is reviewed, a unit will be established on the island".
