More than 2,000 people according to the Local Police gathered on Thursday afternoon in the Ramírez Cerdá Park in Arrecife to participate in a historic demonstration, which closed the first day of the feminist strike called in Spain. Under the slogan "if we stop, the world stops", women from all over the country have made themselves heard this 8M and Lanzarote has not been an exception.
Women with violet shirts and banners began to concentrate in the capital's park at 6:00 p.m., when the demonstration was called, and shortly after the attendees numbered in the hundreds. And sources from the organization even point out that more than 2,500 people have gathered.
Discrimination and the wage gap between men and women has been one of the most denounced aspects during this day, but many more have been added to it, to make clear the inequality that persists in society and the machismo that in one way or another is still present in different areas.
In addition to this concentration called by the Feminist Platform March 8 Lanzarote, the island will experience another day of protest next Saturday. In this case, the demonstration has been organized by the Forum Against Gender Violence and will start at 11:30 a.m. from the Four Corners towards Calle León y Castillo, passing through Otilia Díaz, Plaza de San Ginés and returning along Calle Inspector Luís Martín to La Plazuela. That march, in whose organization the Cabildo has participated, will feature performances by the Chimbay batucada, the singer Peggy Martínez and the murga afilarmónica los Tabletúos.
