Lanzarote en Pie has announced that it will not accept the Popular Party's proposal to join the Arrecife government. "It is not a sincere proposal, but a poisoned candy," said the group's spokesperson, Leticia Padilla, who appeared before the media this Tuesday, together with the other two LEP councilors, to announce her party's decision.

"We are not necessary to form a majority," Padilla added, referring to the agreement that the PP and Coalición Canaria could already have closed, and with which numerically they would not need other forces. "We are going to be more useful in the opposition, overseeing the decisions of the government group," defended the LEP spokesperson.

In addition, she questioned the steps taken by the mayor, Ástrid Pérez. "Before meeting with us, she plugged in the dismissed councilors in the Cabildo," she criticized, also underlining her ideological differences. "We do not share absolutely anything of Ástrid Pérez's policies," Padilla sentenced. To this she added her rejection of decisions already taken by the City Council, such as “the 27 million loan to pay for the Ginory plot, the privatization of several municipal services, the destruction of the city's heritage or the abandonment of the residents of Titerroy, Valterra and those affected by the General Plan”.

"Sensitive to listening when her position is in danger"

During the press conference, Leticia Padilla criticized that Ástrid Pérez “has never paid attention” to the proposals of the LeP municipal group, but that now, “when her position in power is in danger”, is when she is “sensitive to listening to them”.

Padilla also stressed that during the confinement, “when the city needed the union of all political forces more than ever”, LeP presented “two writings" offering the government group to "work with them”, although she assures that “they never got a response”.

In addition, she reproached the mayor for bringing instability back to the capital. “The big loser of this breakup is the city of Arrecife,” she said, adding that those who will suffer the most from the effects of the political parties' “whim” “are the citizens”.

Regarding her formation, she has defended that “she has not stopped working for and for Arrecife”, presenting “more than 80 motions” throughout the legislature, and has assured that “they will continue working for the city”, and for those “who want to make the capital a worthy city for all”.
