The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved this Friday, which began with a minute of silence for the victims of gender violence and the inauguration of councilor Paula Corujo, unanimously approved the subsidy of 1.4 million euros to the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote and La Graciosa for the implementation of an Island Coordination Center (CECOPIN).
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, assures that the creation of the Island Coordination Center (CECOPIN) "is a fundamental step for the safety of Lanzarote and La Graciosa." "With this investment, the Island Council demonstrates its firm commitment to citizen protection and the modernization of our emergency systems, guaranteeing a faster and more effective response to any eventuality," he points out.
The Vice President and Minister of Finance of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, assures that this approved budget amendment "marks a before and after in terms of security on the island." "The work carried out by the Security and Emergency Consortium is commendable in guaranteeing the well-being of the citizens of Lanzarote, and in this way we will be able to further shorten reaction times to any type of emergency," Tovar asserts.
The president of the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote, Francisco J. Aparicio, thanks the Department of Finance and the Cabildo of Lanzarote as a whole "for continuing to commit to improving security in Lanzarote and La Graciosa." "We were aware of the need to create this CECOPIN in Lanzarote, taking a giant step towards modernizing the emergency management system in Lanzarote. We continue in constant transformation," he adds.
This project, called "Implementation and Modernization of Technological Infrastructures for Emergency Management: Comprehensive System and Control Room in Lanzarote and La Graciosa," is fully funded by the Canary Islands Development Funds (FDCAN), which are managed by the Planning and Project Coordination area, led by Vice President María Jesús Tovar.
This CECOPIN, specifically, is the operational and coordination body reporting to the island council, from where the actions aimed at dealing with the emergency in its territorial and competence area are monitored. Therefore, and once it is installed, emergencies and calls to 112 will be managed directly by personnel on the island of Lanzarote.
Furthermore, the project includes not only the acquisition of the necessary specific material, but also technical and operational personnel from the Consortium, intervention teams, middle management, senior management, as well as personnel from the entities that comprise or collaborate with the island's emergency system.
