Lanzarote and Mallorca presented this Friday, July 9, to a large Mallorcan representation of travel agencies, tour operators, media, prescribers and representatives of the tourism, sports and business sector of the Balearic Island, the new Vueling route that directly connects the airports of Son Santjoan and César Manrique-Lanzarote every Saturday.

Celebrated in the Cuit restaurant of the Nakar Hotel in Palma de Mallorca, during the event a gastronomic menu was offered, made with local products from both islands by prominent chefs from Lanzarote and Mallorca that were paired with Lanzarote Designation of Origin wines.

Previously, the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera i Crespí, received the Councilor for Tourism and Economic Promotion of the Cabildo, Ángel Vázquez, at the headquarters of this institution, who, accompanied by the CEO of the Society for the Foreign Promotion of Lanzarote (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), Héctor Fernández, presented the president of the Consell with the book “César Manrique. Total Art”, by Violeta Izquierdo, edited by the first Island Corporation, as a souvenir of the visit of the Lanzarote delegation.

 

“Leading destinations”

Later, during the presentation of the new route, Ángel Vázquez highlighted that “this direct connection will allow us to strengthen ties between two islands that are leading destinations, Mallorca and Lanzarote, which are united by common characteristics, such as the offer of nautical and sports events of the first level, and a gastronomic proposal of its own that is highly appreciated by our markets, among many other values ​​”.

In this sense, the counselor highlighted that “Saborea Lanzarote has become a strategic project for the Island of Volcanoes that contributes to cementing our unique hallmark, linked to sustainability and the conservation of a territory and landscape unique in the world, for its spectacularity and beauty”.

For his part, and after welcoming the Lanzarote delegation, the Minister of Tourism of Mallorca, Andreu Serra, highlighted “the importance of this direct connection between archipelagos that will make it easier for us to establish new links. In addition to contributing to boosting our respective economies, this air link “unites” us and facilitates mutual knowledge”. He also valued “the possibility of opening new markets within the national public, to whom our island is presented as a safe, quality and sustainable destination, which also closely links us with Lanzarote”.

In addition to the regional manager of Vueling Canarias, Isabel Fernández, the event was also attended by the CEO of Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, the island director of Tourism of Mallorca, Lucía Escribano, and the head of the Economic Promotion service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Betancort.

The gastronomic preparations were carried out by Joao Faraco and Abel de Rosario - chefs from the Lanzarote restaurants Coentro and Kamezí Deli & Bistro, respectively - as well as the host chef Miquel Calent, from the Cuit restaurant. For his part, the winemaker from Bodegas Los Bermejos, Ignacio Valdera, described the singularities of the Lanzarote Designation of Origin wines.

Turismo Lanzarote previously carried out a complete presentation of the destination in which the main attractions of the island were reviewed, highlighting its own and genuine values, associated with the unique Lanzarote landscape, sustainability and respect for the environment, as well as the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of the Cabildo, a unique spatial work in the world created by the universal artist César Manrique. Attendees were able to learn about the benefits that Lanzarote also offers as a tourist-sports destination, under the umbrella of European Sports Destination, and the varied experiences that can be enjoyed on the island, many of them as a Premium destination.

On the other hand, a group of Lanzarote businessmen related to nautical tourism traveled to Mallorca in order to create synergies with representatives of this sector on the Balearic Island, given the existing affinity and the preponderance enjoyed by nautical-sports events of the first level on both islands.

 

Vueling Mallorca-Lanzarote Route

The new Vueling route between Mallorca and Lanzarote, which opened on June 19, has a weekly frequency every Saturday and the flights will be operational until the end of October. During July, September and October, departures from Palma de Mallorca take place at 7:00 a.m. with arrival at 9:10 a.m., and from Lanzarote at 09:50 a.m. with arrival at 1:45 p.m. In August, flights will depart from Palma at 6:30 a.m. with arrival at 8:40 a.m., and from Lanzarote at 9:20 a.m. with arrival on the Balearic Island at 1:15 p.m.

The event has been organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Sociedad de Promoción Exterior de Lanzarote (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote), in collaboration with Turismo de Mallorca and Saborea Lanzarote.
