Since Pedro Sánchez announced the call for elections for Sunday, July 23, all of Spain is very expectant about the doubt that all citizens have: what happens if they have a vacation scheduled for that date and they have to appear at the polling stations.

Is it possible to get rid of an electoral table?

Is it possible to get rid of an electoral table? Faced with that question, we have the keys to shirk. For vacation reasons, it can be argued that they are a family event of special relevance, although the last word will be with the Zonal Electoral Board. To do this, those interested must provide all possible documentation that justifies that trip and the economic damage that would result from losing it: copies of airline tickets, accommodation reservations, payment receipts, etc. In addition, not only that, but the non-deferrable nature of the trip or the economic damages in case of suspension must also be submitted, according to an instruction from the Electoral Board.

In the case of voting by mail, which has raised many doubts among citizens, even if you vote in advance, it does not exempt you from having to go to the polling station. The draw for the members of the tables is carried out with all those registered in the electoral census. Therefore, if you request to vote by mail, what is not allowed is to go to vote in person that July 23.

The deadlines to claim if you are one of those chosen to be part of the table are seven days from when you receive the letter notifying you if you have been designated. After the request, it will be the Zonal Electoral Board that concludes what its resolution will be within a period of five days.

To carry out the request, you must go to the Electoral Board of the area that corresponds to you. Through the internet, on the website of the Central Electoral Board and a mobile application of the Central Electoral Board, called Excusas (as could already be done in previous elections).

Current registrations in the place of summer residence will also not be accepted to avoid participating in the electoral table. Since for the next elections the census will be used as it was on March 1.

"Exempts from not attending a job with a temporary summer contract in a region different from the usual address"

It would be possible not to attend when you are in a job with a temporary summer contract in a region different from your usual address. But the citizen will have to justify that difficulty of not being able to attend, because the address collected in the electoral census will be different from the address in which he/she will be for those dates. Although that issue will have to be analyzed and assessed by the Electoral Board.

On the other hand, there are people who are exempt from going to the polling station. Specifically, in these specific cases:

  • Being over 65 years old.
  • Having a disability in any degree. It is not necessary to provide a medical certificate detailing the limitations.
  • Being a pensioner with permanent absolute disability and great invalidity.
