The Yaiza City Council has reported through a press release that "the restructuring process of Yaiza Civil Protection continues, appointing Juan Gabino Cáceres Umpiérrez as the new head of the southern Group." An appointment that has been confirmed this week by the councilor responsible for the Area, Javier Camacho.
Cáceres, a resident of the town of Las Breñas, 44 years old and with a degree in Lifeguarding, is a founding member in 2001 of the NGO Association of Volunteers in Emergencies and Rescue of Lanzarote (Emerlan), an organization of which he is also vice president. He is a port police officer in La Tiñosa, in the public entity Puertos Canarios, dependent on the Autonomous Government.
According to Councilor Javier Camacho, Cáceres "will have 17 volunteers, including new members and others who have already been in the Yaiza Group." "The new chief will begin his task by gathering the volunteers, setting work guidelines and inventorying existing material resources," he adds. The intention, Camacho emphasizes, "is to improve the service, satisfying, among other things, demands for festive, cultural or sporting events." "We have appointed a competent, responsible, experienced person who is also a resident of our municipality," adds Javier Camacho.
