The Nationalist Youth of the Canary Islands (JNC), after an extensive two-day debate, concluded today its VI National Congress, after the election by a large majority of the new leadership of the Executive with Jesús Machín Tavío as the new secretary general; Sergio Eiroa, as deputy secretary general and Irinova Hernández as secretary of organization.

In his speech as the new secretary general of the Nationalist Youth of the Canary Islands, Jesús Machín thanked the entire team for their work and perseverance over the years and said he was "very proud" to be part of a youth movement like the JNC. Thus, the nationalist asserted that, in this youth movement, "we have earned the respect of our political party of reference and our right to have our own name and our own autonomy to opine, applaud decisions or criticize them when we disagree."

Machín Tavío emphasized the importance of "working from the base, from the local, from municipalism; making us strong in the smallest places to grow in the big ones" and argued that "we must understand each island with each of its singularities because we are a whole with 8 different realities."

In this new stage, Machín, who is also a deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, thanked the entire team for their effort and perseverance and promised to "continue working as we are doing so that young people do not have to suffer the highest youth unemployment rate in the entire State." For the nationalist, the chilling figures of youth unemployment that plague the Canary Islands are one of the most urgent issues to work on because "we cannot allow six out of ten young people under 25 years of age to not have access to working life."

"It is our commitment as a youth organization to promote the proposals of the Canary Nationalist Youth in areas as important as equality, diversity, youth employment and Canarian identity," said the nationalist, who added that from JNC, "we will work with discipline and perseverance so that the Canary Islands is a land of opportunities, cultural roots, training and future, attending to the reality of each of the eight islands," concluded Machín.

Precisely, youth unemployment is a main part of the content of the Political Conference debated during this VI Congress in which three resolutions on equality, Canarian identity and in homage to José Cabrera Díaz and José Franchy Roca were also approved, after extensive debate, to which are added three initiatives for the implementation and celebration of several political schools, up to "Confidence in change", an environmental project developed simultaneously by the JNC in all the islands.

For his part, the secretary general of Coalición Canaria Tenerife, Francisco Linares, lamented the "terrible unemployment figures" and demanded policies and measures so that "not one more young person has to leave the Canary Islands in search of job opportunities" and therefore, he urged the youth organization "to continue working so that opportunities for young people become realities."

In addition, the national secretary general of Coalición Canaria, Fernando Clavijo, denounced that the decisions taken by the state parties "are stealing the future of young Canarians" and recalled that "Coalición Canaria is the only party that makes proposals, initiatives and measures to turn around the figures of youth unemployment" and does so "with JNC as the spearhead."
