Jacobo Medina, the Popular Party candidate for the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, presented this Wednesday the main proposals included in his government program. For Medina, the challenges facing Lanzarote and La Graciosa in the next four years require “serious, brave, assertive, and ambitious managers regarding what the two islands are rightfully entitled to,” he emphasized.
In addition, the Popular Party candidate has criticized the management of the socialist presidency of the Cabildo, "which has opted for a completely submissive and surrendered attitude towards the governments, also socialist, of Torres and Sánchez."
In parallel, Jacobo Medina is committed to a “leading Cabildo” in the provision of services and a “driving Cabildo” for public investment on the island, always hand in hand and in “coordination and collaboration with the town councils, regardless of their political colors.”
“In the Popular Party, we have our own government plan to execute from the presidency of the island institution, which responds to a management model that, for example, believes in and is committed to unblocking the land planning and all pending plans such as the PIOL, the Plan de La Geria, the Plan de Uso y Gestión del Archipiélago Chinijo, or the Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales.
“A management model that clearly and emphatically supports social care for the elderly and dependent people who require maximum care and who, to this day, do not have a single high-demand socio-health place on the island,” says Medina, who assures that it will be a priority issue along with the creation of an island network of family respite, creation of a nursing home in the south, and expansion of the center in the north.
Jacobo Medina has assured that he will “not look the other way to solve the serious problems that exist in Lanzarote and La Graciosa in terms of water, stressing that all necessary actions will be taken to guarantee the supply of this vital element to both citizens and the primary sector. “It is unacceptable that in 2023 there are residents on both islands who, when they turn on the tap, not a drop of water comes out, or farmers who cannot even water their farms.”
The candidate for the presidency reaffirmed his commitment to the university campus on the island because “we cannot allow the young people of the island to be forced to go to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, or the peninsula because here they can only study Tourism or Nursing and do so in facilities that are not the most suitable.”
In terms of tourism, Jacobo Medina assured that “what this island really needs are people who work for “tourism excellence, for quality over quantity, and who approach tourism policy responsibly, without messages that promote tourismophobia, as the left is doing on the island.”
Likewise, in his government plan, the councilor and PP candidate gives a prominent place to public transport, the improvement of which - he acknowledged - will require a strong investment because “what we want is a “transport service for all,” with an increase in lines, reduction of frequencies, and the implementation of taxi on demand.
The promotion of clean energies with aid for domestic installations and the creation of new wind and photovoltaic farms; the creation of a new Sports City, or the creation of an island culture center from which to promote our history and traditional activities, are some of the proposals that are also included in Jacobo Medina's government program.
