The vice president and head of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, has requested the Government of the Canary Islands to postpone the planned cuts starting this Wednesday, May 22 on the Playa Honda highway.
As stated in the letter from the Public Works area of the Island Corporation, after reading and studying the proposed proposal, it is estimated “the need to hold a meeting as soon as possible for the joint study of the proposed proposal and see the possibility of delaying the proposed detours”.
“We understand that it is necessary to inform the users affected by the proposed detours with more anticipation so that they can consider alternative routes”, says Jacobo Medina, who also maintains that during the weekend “many residents have contacted me to convey their discontent over the chaos that could be caused”.
Medina also points out that the underpass work “is a necessary intervention that will generate a transit space for pedestrians”. “For that same reason, we believe that collaboration and inter-administrative communication is essential, as is informing citizens with a prudent amount of time so that they are aware of the detours on the highway”, he adds.
The vice president hopes that the Ministry of Public Works of the Government of the Canary Islands will consider the letter sent by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and delay the proposed detours until there is a specific traffic plan and with a prudent amount of time.
