Inalsa has restored the water supply service throughout the municipality of Yaiza, according to the company in a statement posted on its website. Residents have recovered the service at 7:00 a.m. The town of Yaiza, Puerto Calero, Playa Quemada, Uga, La Degollada, El Golfo, Las Breñas, Maciot, La Hoya and Femés have been without water since Friday.
This interruption in the supply, which according to the southern City Council has affected almost 5,000 residents of Yaiza, originated from a breakdown of the pumping equipment at the Inalsa-Sur Desalination Plant.
This breakdown was repaired on Saturday but "due to the poor condition of the impulsion pipe from the Las Breñas reservoir to the Uga reservoir", the water supply could not be restored until this Monday, according to the public water company of Lanzarote.
This impulsion pipe is being replaced by another one of a larger diameter by the Island Water Council of Lanzarote and will allow "to eliminate or considerably shorten the time of suspension of the service and improve the regularity in the supply and the quality of the water supplied". According to the manager of the Consortium, Antonio Cárdenas, in this statement, the commissioning of this pipe that the residents have demanded so much will be carried out "in the coming weeks".
In this same statement, Inalsa also reminds all subscribers of the obligation to have a reserve tank of at least 120 liters per person per day, for five days, in the case of domestic consumption. In the case of tourist consumption, the cistern must be 250 liters per person per day. The company has regretted the inconvenience that the repair of this breakdown may have caused.
