The PSOE councilors in the Cabildo appeared this Friday before the media to make it clear that they will not assume their areas of government if Pedro San Ginés does not rectify and reverse the dismissal of Leopoldo Díaz as head of the Island Plan Office. The socialists insist that this "unilateral" decision was a "gross and evident interference" by the president, since he also decreed the dismissal just before delegating the areas of government last Friday.
"If CC does not comply with the agreements, out of dignity, we will remain in the opposition", stated José Juan Cruz Saavedra, who was the head of the PSOE list in the Corporation. For his part, Marcos Bergaz, who is also the one who was to assume the area of Territorial Policy, has defended the official and his career. "I have not the slightest doubt about his rectitude", he pointed out. In addition, he described as "enlightening" the report on Stratvs and the Plan de La Geria carried out by this official, which has been made public this week and which has been the trigger for his dismissal.
In their appearance, the socialists also made it clear that they will maintain the agreements with CC in Arrecife and San Bartolomé, since in those institutions there have been no "breaches" by their partner. Similarly, they will also maintain the agreements reached with the PIL. In addition, they have assured that they will not make "movements" to seek new majorities in the Cabildo, because they "respect" and "support" the regional pact signed between CC and the PSOE, nor are they going to "hinder a public management that is carried out for the general interest of the island and its citizens". Regarding the Haría City Council, José Juan Cruz pointed out that "although it is intended to ignore it", it also constitutes a breach by his partner. There, the nationalists have agreed with Somos Lanzarote and, in Cruz's words, the PSOE has been left "out of the agreements".
"Unanimous" and "unflinching" decision
During his appearance before the press, José Juan Cruz highlighted that his decision has "total unanimity in the party", both at the island and regional level. "It has been a decision taken without fissures or doubts", Cruz stressed, who explained that his position was included this Thursday in a resolution proposal that the Socialist Island Executive approved "unanimously".
"The dignity of this party, respect for agreements and loyalty to our values and electorate are far above the achievement of positions in institutions, despite the fact that we are a party with a vocation for government", he stressed, and then highlighted that "one thing is to respect the regional pact and another is to govern at any price".
"I don't see CC governing with the PP of the prospecting"
On the other hand, Cruz responded during the question time to the possibility that the nationalists seek a new pact with the Popular Party, which has been willing to govern since the day of the elections. Reiterating first that the socialists will not govern "at any price", he added later that "that possibility does not cross his mind".
"I don't see CC governing with the PP of social cuts, with the PP of the Gag Law or with the PP of oil prospecting", he replied, pointing out that "the pact was made because we were clear that we were the most voted parties on the island and the two that would achieve greater stability for the institutions".
"Let everyone who has the opportunity read Polo Díaz's report"
During his brief intervention, Marcos Bergaz vehemently defended the work of the person who for two decades was head of the PIOT Office. "I do not see the slightest doubt about the rectitude, technical solvency and exemplary behavior of the official Polo Díaz", he stated.
For Bergaz, this official dismissed by San Ginés "is an example from the point of view of the public function and has been in the best of the territorial policy of this island". "Therefore", he added, "until the president's interference disappears and the replacement of the famous technician is guaranteed to this councilor and the rest of the PSOE, we are not going to assume our areas", he sentenced.
In addition, the one who was going to be councilor of Territorial Policy, referred to the forceful report that motivated the dismissal of Díaz by San Ginés. In that opinion, the official maintained and argued that the Special Plan of La Geria has "vices of radical nullity" and stated that it gives the Stratvs winery a "position of advantage". Regarding that document, Bergaz said that "everyone who has the opportunity to read it", "should do so". "It is very enlightening and explains why it was kept in a drawer for two years", he concluded.
