The Haría City Council has sent a statement in which it states that it is "fed up" with the residents of Haría being the "main victims" in the celebration of the Ironman due to restrictions, detours and street closures. The mayor of the municipality, Marci Acuña, states that he is conveying the "unease of residents and businesses" and demands "a review of the route for future editions."
"And it is that, understanding the importance of the celebration of said event for Lanzarote at a sporting, economic and tourism promotion level, and recognizing the efforts that have been made by the organization in terms of safety, signage and establishment of alternative routes, the truth is that the residents of Haría are the main victims of this event," says the mayor.
According to Marci Acuña, "there are several restaurants that will be forced to close tomorrow Saturday, precisely the day they make the most money of the entire week, just as there are farmers who will not be able to work their land." "And many residents will have problems accessing their homes due to restrictions, detours and street closures," adds the mayor, who states that "even the Haría market will be affected by the development of the competition."
"In short, from the northern Consistory, recognizing the benefits that the Ironman brings to the island, a review of the route and the configuration of the event is required so that the municipality of Haría is not the main victim during this weekend and commercial activity and the daily life of the residents are not altered," he concludes.
