Although in almost all institutions of Lanzarote the number of political parties running for elections has increased compared to the 2015 elections, even more significant are the increases registered in Haría and Tinajo, which, despite being the municipalities with the smallest population, have four more formations than in the previous elections. Specifically, the Haría City Council has had ten parties submit candidacies for the May 26 elections compared to six in 2015, while in Tinajo there have been eight, four more than in the previous elections.
Regarding the Haría City Council, its current mayor, Marci Acuña, is running for re-election for CC, while Alfredo Villalba is running again for the PSOE. Aduén Andrés Morales is the head of the list for the PP, Suso López for Ciudadanos, and former mayor José Torres Stinga for the Haría Municipality Platform.
For her part, Sonia de León aspires to the Mayor's Office of the northern municipality for Somos Lanzarote-Nueva Canarias, while Adela Belén López does so for Lanzarote Avanza. Fuerza Vecinal Lanzarote is also running in the elections to the Haría City Council with Ricardo Castro as head of the list. Levantar Haría is also running with Manuel Vicente Barreto heading the electoral list and Contigo Somos Democracia with Manuel Alejandro Fernández as a candidate.
From four to eight parties in Tinajo
Regarding the Tinajo City Council, also in this case the current mayor, Jesús Machín, is running for re-election for CC, while for the PSOE Begoña Hernández leads the electoral list. For the PP, Alfonsa Pérez is the head of the list and for Ciudadanos, Yakira Curbelo leads the list.
For his part, Antonio Morales heads the candidacy of the new Tinajo Renewal Party, while Francisco Javier Expósito is the candidate for Mayor of Somos Lanzarote-NC, Cándido Marcos Lorenzo for Lanzarote Avanza and Ana Rosa Martín for Izquierda Unida.
San Bartolomé maintains the number of parties
In the elections to the San Bartolomé City Council, as in the 2015 elections, there are eight parties running in the elections on May 26. Alexis Tejera is running for Mayor for the PSOE, while David Rocío is doing so for CC and Lorenzo Reyes for the PP. For Ciudadanos, Javier Aday Lemes heads the electoral list and for Somos Lanzarote-NC Tibiabín Hernández does so.
In the case of IU, its island coordinator, José Carballo, is also aspiring to the Mayor's Office of San Bartolomé, while for Lanzarote Avanza the president of the PIL, Ramón Bermúdez, is doing so, and for Podemos-Equo Maite Gorritz.
From seven to nine parties in Teguise
In the case of Teguise, there are nine parties that have submitted candidacies for the May elections compared to seven that did so in 2015, also repeating candidacy for CC the current mayor, Oswaldo Betancort. For the PSOE, Marcos Bergaz leads the electoral list, while for the PP Jonás Álvarez does so.
Ciudadanos is running in the elections with Raquel Hernández as head of the list and Somos Lanzarote-NC is doing so with Omayra Díaz. For Unidos por Lanzarote Tanía María Hernández is running as a candidate for Mayor, while María del Mar Gopar is doing so for Lanzarote Avanza, Elsa Betancort for Podemos-Equo and Roger Deign for Vox.
Ten parties for the city councils of Tías and Yaiza
To the City Council of Tías, which will go from 17 to 21 councilors, there are ten parties that have submitted candidacies, one more than in the previous elections. For the PP, the current mayor, José Francisco Hernández, is running again as head of the list, while for the PSOE José Juan Cruz is doing so and for CC Amado Jesús Vizcaníno is also repeating in a list in which members of San Borondón have been integrated after the agreement sealed between both formations.
The former NC councilor, Mame Fernández, leads the list of Lanzarote Avanza, while Manuel Cabrera is running for Mayor for Unidos por Lanzarote and Pedro Suárez for Somos Lanzarote-NC. Nicolás Saavedra is the head of the list for Podemos-Equo, Fernando Daniel Román for Vox and Salvador Medina for Hay Proyecto en Tías.
To the City Council of Yaiza, there are also 10 parties that will compete for the Mayor's Office, one more than in the previous elections, with the current mayor, Óscar Noda, heading the candidacy of Lanzarote Avanza. The former councilor of San Borondón, Juan Monzón, is the head of the list for the PP, while Ángel Domínguez is repeating as a candidate for CC.
Francisco Javier Manso is the candidate for Mayor for the PSOE, Francisco Ramón for Ciudadanos and the also candidate for the Senate, Yone Caraballo, for Somos Lanzarote-NC. Ramiro Muñoz heads the list of Podemos-Equo, Dioniosio Fernández that of Izquierda Unida and Roberto López that of Voz. Fuerza Vecinal Lanzarote is also running in the elections to the southern municipality with Manuel González Gómez leading the candidacy.
