The Councilor for Territorial Policy and Environment of the island Cabildo of Lanzarote, Carlos Espino, presented this Friday before the Council of the Biosphere Reserve the main lines of work of the [Special Territorial Plan->http://www.lavozdelanzarote.com/article.php3?id_article=2348&var_recherche=Pol%EDtica+Territorial+&var_mode=recalcul] that the First Island Corporation is obliged to finalize before April 2006.
Regarding the [public request for dialogue->http://www.lavozdelanzarote.com/article.php3?id_article=2169] launched by the mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, between the southern City Council and the representatives of the Cabildo to reach a consensus on the issue of tourist licenses challenged in the courts, Espino denied in statements to Radio Lanzarote that the attempts at conversation had been prolonged by Reyes.
Summons to the mayor of Yaiza
However, the socialist councilor recalled that, "as it could not be otherwise, this will not be an obstacle or restriction for the Cabildo to be very clear that in processes such as the Special Territorial Plan, the mayor of Yaiza will have to be summoned."
But "another thing is" that Reyes and Espino bring positions closer during said approach since, according to the councilor regarding the hotel licenses granted in the south, the Plan "has very clear limits due to respect for legality and insular interest."
After the resolutions of the Cabildo denied three tourist opening and operation licenses to three lodging establishments in Playa Blanca, for the moment the Tourism Council of the Government of the Canary Islands has not ruled on the sense of tourist inspection and sanction, matters that are still the responsibility of the regional Executive.
"Show anxieties"
In any case, Carlos Espino denied that the socialists had entered power with great impetus and then deflated, and clarified that "at this moment we have simply had to deal with the situation created by the policy followed by the mayor of Yaiza" regarding the licenses granted.
"We are not here to satisfy anyone's show anxieties, but to fulfill our obligation to pursue license fraud," he added.
