Podemos has confirmed that Elena Solís will be the new non-elected councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, as La Voz had already announced, and has highlighted its commitment to "an independent and renowned figure" to occupy the area of Environment, Food Sovereignty and Animal Welfare, within the agreement they signed this Friday with the PSOE.
According to them, Elena Solís is a "renowned environmental lawyer and expert in European law", who "has trained between Madrid and the United Kingdom, is the founder and state coordinator of the mining area of Ecologistas en Acción since 2017 and vice president of the delegation of this organization in Lanzarote".

For her part, the future non-elected councilor of the Cabildo wanted to thank the opportunity "to give institutional continuity to all the work we have done from activism." Similarly, she believes it is "essential" that environmental organizations "continue to push and mark a necessary path towards the defense of the territory and food sovereignty."
During the social mobilizations against the oil explorations of Repsol on the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Podemos highlights that this lawyer "was the coordinator of the national and European legal strategy, citizen and institutional, with the councils of both islands and the Government of the Canary Islands."
"Her specialization in European law is key to the good management of European recovery funds, which will also be focused on carrying out projects that reduce environmental impact and reverse the consequences of climate change," they argue.
From Podemos they wanted to clarify that for the incorporation of a "non-elected" position to an institution they have "always defended the suitability of independent figures, experts in the area to be managed and who contribute technical quality to political management." "For other parties, this is a tool to pay favors and that is how they use it, we believe in another way of doing politics," Podemos Canarias says in a statement.
