Coalición Canaria Arrecife unanimously elected Echedey Eugenio Felipe as head of the list for the Arrecife City Council in the 2023 elections, after the meeting of the Extraordinary Local Assembly of Arrecife that took place during the afternoon of this Friday, June 10, and in which its members supported with 100% of the votes, the candidacy of the current nationalist spokesperson in the Arrecife City Council.
After the vote, an event was held in the Recova de Arrecife in which the new candidate had, among many others, the support of the general secretary of CC, Fernando Clavijo, the island secretary, Migdalia Machín, the national Organization secretary, David Toledo, the nationalist spokesperson in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, José Miguel Barragán, as well as a representation of Asamblea Majorera, led by the parliamentarian for Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera, and numerous party officials on the island, including the parliamentarians for Lanzarote, David de la Hoz, Jesús Machín and Oswaldo Betancort; the former president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote Pedro San Ginés, as well as mayors and councilors from the different municipalities of the island.
In his first speech after being acclaimed for the second consecutive time as a candidate for mayor of the island's capital, Echedey Eugenio had words of thanks "first of all, for the members of Arrecife for this new opportunity to carry out the city project that we have in our heads and in our hearts."
Eugenio stressed that "we are tired of an abandoned Arrecife that they call the ugly duckling, which has ceased to be the third capital of the Canary Islands, which has been forgotten by the public administrations of both the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands."
The new candidate, after making a diagnosis of the city, "in which nothing has changed in the last three years," highlighted some of the main lines of his plan for the future of Arrecife, "we are going to Lanzarote Arrecife, with a city project that will truly be the capital of the Biosphere Reserve, in which we will have well-cared neighborhoods, and we will bet on quality public transport, a city that truly cares for its environment, and in which we will promote and encourage real citizen participation, where we will continue listening to the neighbors."
Echedey Eugenio harshly criticized the Government of the Canary Islands, which he accused of "failing to fulfill promises such as the Supplementary Plan for Arrecife, the large rainwater works, the Argana Health Center, the school area institute, the Senior Residence, the Naos swimming pool or the Congress Palace. There is nothing of what was promised to us and the worst thing is that they are not even expected."
Eugenio pointed out "the achievements that Arrecife has reached since the arrival of the nationalist group to the government, we have advanced in the Argana Pavilion, we will soon inaugurate the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center, we are going to advance the Arrecife Police Station and change the Maneje Park, we have just inaugurated the Titerroy Pavilion, we have been leaders in the Canary Islands for the management of the Animal Welfare Center, we have organized festivals worthy of the third capital of the Canary Islands in the midst of a pandemic with all the safety conditions and we are going to sit down to negotiate with the owners of the Islote de Francés so that we do not have a Ginory case again, and we are going to execute a neighborhood plan because in Arrecife not a square meter of asphalt has been laid since 2017."
To conclude, highlighting that "we have to achieve an absolute majority. The thirteen councilors are possible and we are going to make sure that the 13th stops being the number of bad luck for Arrecife because it will be the number of the nationalist majority that finally transforms this city."
The general secretary of Coalición Canaria, Fernando Clavijo, who preceded the new municipal candidate in the use of the word, highlighted Echedey Eugenio's "talent, that ability to be able to get away from problems, see them from another perspective and provide solutions and that makes him a magnificent leader."
Clavijo also wanted to highlight "the ability to plan and the virtue of building a team and that people get excited and have autonomy to develop all their capacity, that illusion that he already generated in 2019 and that is still alive, I think it is intact and that unnatural pact that governed the city has generated more disappointment and I think that it will lead to the fact that in 2023 Arrecife will not only be nationalist, but will achieve the necessary absolute majority to be able to execute our city project."
Fernando Clavijo concluded his speech highlighting that "I have no doubt, Echedey, that you will be the next mayor of Arrecife and that the winds of reconquest so that the Canary Islands become nationalist again, will begin in Arrecife with you."
For her part, the island secretary of Coalición Canaria in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, thanked Echedey Eugenio first of all "for his generosity in renouncing being mayor of Arrecife to promote the current government pact."
Machín, who was highly acclaimed by the public gathered in the Recova de Arrecife, highlighted the importance of the work that the men and women of Coalición Canaria are doing in the different institutions of the island in which she recalled that the strength and support for Coalición Canaria remains intact and "although we missed the government in the Cabildo and in the Arrecife City Council by very little, I want to remember that we govern in five municipalities of Lanzarote, while, for example, the PSOE only does it in two."
Finally, the island secretary of CC gave the starting signal to the electoral campaign, predicting "that we are going to recover the lost ground and we will put Coalición Canaria back in the place that Arrecife, Lanzarote and its citizens deserve."
