Crime in Lanzarote and La Graciosa decreased by 4.1% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data from the Crime Balance Report published by the Ministry of Interior.
The data was analyzed this week at a coordination meeting held by the island director, Pedro Viera, with the commanders of the Civil Guard and the National Police on the island, where the evolution of the main indicators of citizen security and the effectiveness of the devices deployed by the State Security Forces and Corps were evaluated.
During the first three months of the year, 1,712 criminal offenses were recorded, consolidating a favorable trend in public safety. The crime rate stands at 44.4 criminal offenses per thousand inhabitants, a figure significantly lower than both the national average and the Canary Islands average.
Likewise, the percentage of clearance of criminal offenses reaches 58.6%, also above the national and regional average records. This indicator reflects the high investigative effectiveness of the State Security Forces and Corps operating on the island and the existing coordination between the different police forces.
Pedro Viera highlighted that “these data confirm that Lanzarote continues to be a safe island, with contained crime levels and a police response capacity that is above the national average, thanks to the constant work of the Civil Guard and National Police.”
The report reflects a decrease in various crimes related to property, drug trafficking, and cybercrimes, indicators especially relevant in a territory with intense economic and tourist activity.
Crime indicators show an increase in crimes such as robberies with violence or intimidation and against sexual freedom. In relation to the latter, which experienced an increase of three cases compared to the previous year's quarter, the island director pointed out that this evolution must be analyzed taking into account the important awareness and sensitization work carried out by public administrations, the Security Forces and Corps, and social entities in recent years, which leads to a greater willingness to report this type of crime that previously remained hidden.
The insular director has wanted to expressly thank the work of the National Police, the Civil Guard and the local police forces of the island, as well as citizen collaboration, fundamental elements for maintaining the high levels of security that characterize Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The Insular Directorate of the General Administration of the State will continue working in a coordinated manner with all administrations and with the Security Forces and Corps to consolidate Lanzarote and La Graciosa as safe territories, favoring coexistence, economic activity and the quality of life of the citizens.
