Maritime Rescue has rescued this Sunday a second irregular migration vessel in less than 24 hours in waters near Lanzarote. On this occasion, the Salvamar Acrux intercepted an inflatable boat with 68 people on board when it was sailing about 45 miles east of the island.
According to the information provided by the Rescue Coordination Center, on board the vessel were 63 males, four women, and one minor. After the rescue, all occupants were transferred to the port of Arrecife without the need for evacuations or medical transfers.
The operation was underway at 7:51 PM, at which time the location of the inflatable boat in the open sea was confirmed, more than 12 miles from the coast. The vessel had reportedly departed from the Tan Tan area, on the southern coast of Morocco.
This is the second arrival assisted by Maritime Rescue during the day. Hours earlier, the Salvamar Acrux itself had rescued another 77 people of sub-Saharan origin, including six women and three minors, who were traveling on board a raft located about 64 kilometers east of Lanzarote.
With this new operation, 145 people have now been rescued in two different vessels in less than a day in waters near the island.
