The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of the Canary Islands expects to deliver the works of the fish handling plant in Puerto Naos in two months, in Lanzarote, according to the regional Executive's publication this Friday through its official website Gobcan.es. The head of the area, Pilar Merino, visited the area on Thursday together with her counterpart in the Cabildo of Conejero, Nereida Pérez, and different spokespersons from the sector on the Island.

Merino, according to Gobcan.es, was able to learn about the evolution of works to which the autonomous Executive contributes the largest financing through the former European Fisheries Fund (EFF), and plans to transfer the facilities to the Cabildo to determine the management model.

According to Pilar Merino, this action is "the most important work that is being carried out in the fishing sector in the Archipelago, and is called to revitalize the activity that takes place in Puerto Naos." The cannery will allow the transformation and packaging of fish, and will include refrigeration chambers and an ice factory.

For her part, Nereida Pérez, adds the Government website, announced that her department is preparing the terms and conditions of the tender to manage the facilities, and pointed out that Cabildo technicians are defining the model through which the operation of the factory will be regulated, in which the entire fishing sector of the Island will be represented.
