The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, confirmed this Wednesday in plenary session that the first commissions that she will make from the Institution to the Autonomous Commission of Environmental Evaluation will be the Special Plan of La Geria, the PORN of the Volcanoes, the island project of the Congress Palace and the modification of the catalog of the Island Plan of Lanzarote (PIOL).
Corujo has announced these commissions after the Government Council of the Canary Islands accepted last month the delegation requested by the Cabildo of Lanzarote to assume the competence when issuing the environmental impact assessment of projects that must be processed and authorized by the Island Corporation. In addition, they also assumed all the instruments of island, territorial or natural resources planning and all those instruments and programs of said competence whose environmental assessment procedure is established by the applicable regulations
"At this moment, the processing of the aforementioned plans is unofficially accepted by the Canarian Executive", said the president. "But I must also convey our intention to continue working in a coordinated manner between the areas of Environment and Agriculture because, as defended by the Cabildo's own technicians, the agricultural use of La Geria can also go ahead without modifications to the Special Plan; and yes, applying a provision of a rule from 2021. There will be news about this", the president pointed out.
In general terms, María Dolores Corujo assured that the commissions for the drafting of basic documents in the development of Lanzarote and La Graciosa will be carried out, always, "stating that these are challenges in planning because we are talking about protected spaces". "Where we also include the Chinijo Archipelago, of course," she added.
And about the PIOL, Corujo added: "We have made progress in the Island Plan because our firm intention is to provide legal certainty and not hinder our development due to errors." And she asserted: "We will modify the Island Plan, removing the footprint of urban corruption that this Island has unfortunately suffered and that this government is decisively pursuing."
In addition, she warned that "any planning commission carried out by the Cabildo will have the advice of people from the field who know this land."
About the Congress Palace
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote provided this information in the Plenary session held during the morning of this Wednesday at the island headquarters, in response to one of the requests made by the Popular Group; specifically, about the steps that have been taken in relation to the Special Plan of La Geria.
Regarding the project of the Congress Palace of Lanzarote, Corujo was "outraged" by "the political propaganda and the accelerated announcements that show little respect for the administered." "We see with shame how, after years of sterile debates where some political leaders repeatedly announced that the money was reserved for that Palace, the palace of shame, I would say, to then realize that the citizens that the land was not even ceded and that it did not have the classification. In fact, look, a project was awarded to an architect to do it on non-existent land, because there was no such provision," she sentenced.
