The Teguise City Council has completed the construction works of 464 new niches in the Nuestra Señora de las Nieves cemetery, in the historic center of the town, an action that has involved an investment of 277,044.48 euros. This action is part of the cooperation plans of the Cabildo of Lanzarote
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, pointed out that this work “responds to the commitment of this government group to guarantee dignified and adequate spaces in such sensitive moments for families. The culmination of this project was a priority and today we can affirm that we have taken a very important step”.
For his part, the Councilor for Works, Eugenio Robayna, added that “this is a highly anticipated action by our neighbors, to whom we want to convey the peace of mind that we have worked as quickly as possible to make these new niches available in the Teguise cemetery”.
“This intervention represents an improvement in the funerary capacity of the municipality and responds to one of the most urgent demands of the citizens”, he pointed out.
Expansion of the Santa Margarita Cemetery
The Teguise City Council also announces that it will carry out the expansion of the Santa Margarita Cemetery, in Guatiza, with a project currently in the bidding phase that contemplates the construction of 30 new niches and 12 columbariums for ashes, with a planned budget of 40,000 euros.
“We know the special concern of the families of Guatiza, who have conveyed it to us on numerous occasions and with great insistence. Therefore, this expansion will be the next work that we will face in funerary matters, with the commitment that the works can begin in the coming months”, Robayna highlighted.
