Comisiones Obreras Canarias has publicly denounced "an extremely serious incident." According to a press release issued on Friday morning, the Association of People with Disabilities of Lanzarote (ADISLAN) allegedly fired an employee who is heading the union's candidacy in the union elections.The union has highlighted that this act constitutes "a direct reprisal and a frontal attack on union freedom".In the aforementioned statement, CCOO defended that running in union elections is "a fundamental right" and that it is protected by the Constitution and labor legislation"To fire someone who decides to organize, to stand up, and to defend their colleagues is to attack democracy in the workplace," the union emphasized, describing the action as: "Sowing fear. It's an attempt to silence the staff."
CCOO has stated that they will not "tolerate these types of practices" nor "look the other way." At the same time, they have warned that "the corresponding legal actions have already been initiated and we will take this case to the end, so that all responsibilities are clarified and the violated legality is restored."
In this vein, he/she has highlighted that "defending rights is not a crime," that "organizing is not punished," and that "union repression will not pass."
The union has insisted that "this dismissal is not an isolated incident," but rather "it is a message of intimidation to the entire staff." "And in the face of fear, we respond with organization, with firmness, and with solidarity. Alba, you are not alone. If they touch one, they touch us all," it concluded.
