The cleaning services for parks and gardens, public buildings and schools in Tías, managed by the company Rinca, belonging to the Camilo Álvarez group, have presented a strike notice, due to the lack of payment to the workers.
According to César Reyes, secretary of UGT in Lanzarote, there have been "delays and non-payments in the payments." Furthermore, he adds, they are "breaching the collective agreement of the sector, because some payments that had to be paid last year have not been paid", so "the situation is unsustainable".
The union secretary has pointed out that they do not understand "how a company is maintained, whose contracts have never been obtained through public tender, at the head of services that cannot be developed with the necessary guarantees, when one of the main requirements to have a contract with the public administration is to be up to date with payments, which is not the case at the moment".
Therefore, "we advocate that the Tías City Council proceed to put this service out to public tender," declares César Reyes. Something that, according to himself, is already being discussed in Arrecife, where it is expected to be released from the month of May.
