The Association of Volunteers of Civil Protection of Teguise is developing these days a campaign to publicize its work in order to add new troops to this solidarity unit. For this, it has the collaboration of the Department of Local Police and Civil Protection of the Town Hall, an area coordinated by María Soledad Armas. In fact, the first requests to join this body of volunteers are submitted in the general registry of the Consistory.
Civil Protection of Teguise was created in the month of August 2005, promoted by the Municipal Corporation. Already then the first basic Civil Protection course was held, an essential requirement to access the Association. Currently there are about 16 members of the group, who have access to the material communication and emergency equipment with which the entity has been equipped with public and private contributions.
Courses and simulations
During this time first aid courses, emergency care techniques or fire extinguisher handling courses have been carried out, as well as a basic support module. The unit performs regular actions in the Sunday market of the Villa and sporadically participates in concentrations such as the Cavalcade of Kings, the Carnival of Costa Teguise, the festivals of Famara, in local pilgrimages or collaborating in the security of tests such as the Ironman, among other events.
To perfect the expertise of the members of the group, they also carry out simulations, such as the motorcycle accident during the Nazaret Festivities, with evacuation of the injured, or the care and evacuation of an injured person in the market grounds, always with the collaboration of the Local Police.
Those interested in belonging to the Association of Civil Protection Volunteers can submit their applications in the registry of the Town Hall of Teguise.
