"IT IS A PRIDE THAT SOMEONE FROM A MINOR ISLAND ASSUMES THIS ENORMOUS RESPONSIBILITY"

The general secretary of UGT in Lanzarote, César Reyes, has been elected coordinator of the union's legal services in the Canary Islands. This was announced by himself on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where he explained that this was the reason why he submitted his resignation as PSOE councilor in the Tías City Council on Tuesday.

"At the proposal of the general secretary of UGT Canarias and unanimously by the organization, I have been elected as regional coordinator of the legal services of UGT in the Canary Islands and that entails a responsibility and a time that you have to dedicate to it, especially being outside the island", said César Reyes, pointing out that he "always" has defended "that beyond having many positions, what you have to do is perform them well."

"When one assumes new responsibilities, you have to dedicate the necessary time and, as we usually say in the Canary Islands, you can't be in mass and ringing the bells, because in the end the parishioners are the ones who pay for it", added Reyes, stating that he therefore decided to submit his resignation as councilor, "understanding that it is the best for both UGT and the PSOE."

Claims to have "a bittersweet taste" with the party

In this way, Reyes has denied that his resignation is due to differences with the party or due to a rivalry with Kalinda Pérez, who was elected as general secretary of the PSOE of Tías. However, he has acknowledged that he has "a bittersweet taste" with the party, "because those renewal situations that were raised at the time, have not been able to be carried out." In fact, although he has stated that he will continue as a member, he has not ruled out ceasing to be one later. "As a continuous member for now, although what comes in the future we will see. But that also falls within the scope of the private and personal," he said.

However, César Reyes has been "satisfied" to have had "the fortune of being the first PSOE candidate in Lanzarote to win a primary" and to have had "the total support" of his fellow councilors "all this time." Regarding his assessment as an opposition councilor in Tías, he has said, however, that he also remains "with a bittersweet taste." "Because those actions that we have presented in the plenary session and that have been approved, have not been executed by the government group, except for a few," he pointed out.

"It is a pride to assume this enormous responsibility"

Regarding his new position in UGT, César Reyes has pointed out that "it is a pride that someone from a minor island assumes this enormous responsibility." "Because we are talking about the main service it provides to its members in the Canary Islands," said the unionist, stating that he will make "a great effort" to improve this service, "which is the backbone" of the union.

"It is about coordinating and putting a single agenda to improve services, to detect those anomalies that are occurring in some advice centers on different islands, correct them, and above all contribute that experience that we have in Lanzarote so that the operating system of these advice centers improves over time, especially giving greater quality to those who request it, which unfortunately are more and more workers every day," he concluded.
